The Secretariat at Raj Bhavan houses the offices of the comptroller and the secretarial staff. The building is a ground storey structure built on a contoured site and has minimalistic features like Doric columns and cornice bands. The Governor’s Secretariat underwent a series of insensitive interventions compromising the structural stability of the historic building. As a part of the Raj Bhavan redevelopment plan, it was collectively decided to reconstruct the Secretariat as per the historic design with a Neo-Classical exterior and contemporary interiors. The reconstruction project has been undertaken by respecting the original and historic architectural features and to highlight the contribution of architect George Wittet in Bombay.
